One of the Carolina Sandhills’ most anticipated new golf destinations is ready to give players their first look.
Candyroot Lodge will begin preview play Oct. 28 on its first 18-hole course, providing golfers an early opportunity to experience architect Mike Koprowski’s new layout ahead of the property’s full public opening in spring 2027.
Located on more than 1,200 acres in South Carolina, approximately an hour from Charlotte and Columbia, Candyroot is being developed as a public golf destination by brothers Aaron and Ethan Oberman. Plans eventually call for as many as four 18-hole courses, along with lodging and wellness amenities.
Koprowski’s first course will anchor the development. The architect took a minimalist approach to the property, allowing its sandy ridges, natural gullies and significant elevation changes to dictate much of the routing. The result is intended to encourage creativity and strategic decision-making while taking advantage of the Sandhills terrain.
During the preview period, Candyroot will limit access to 40 players per day, Wednesday through Sunday.
Golfers can purchase a $175 “A Day at Candyroot” pass that provides unlimited golf for the day, along with select food and beverage offerings and a welcome package. Forecaddies will be required for an additional fee. Preview passes are scheduled to go on sale Sept. 8.
The first course represents only the beginning of Candyroot’s golf ambitions.
Koprowski is also collaborating with major champion Michelle Wie West on Sweet Tooth, a lighted short course designed to provide a more relaxed and accessible golf experience.
For golfers intrigued by the growing collection of acclaimed courses in the Carolina Sandhills, preview play will offer the first chance to see how Candyroot fits into the region’s expanding golf landscape.
