Ole Miss survived a dramatic finish to win the Bryan Bros Collegiate on Tuesday at Solina Golf Club, while Liberty freshman Austin Krahn claimed individual honors in an event that featured strong performances from several South Carolina programs.
The Rebels finished the 54-hole tournament at 19-under 833, edging Arkansas by a shot and Liberty by two in a three-team battle that came down to the closing holes. Ole Miss’ Collins Trolio made par on No. 18 to secure the victory after the Rebels, Razorbacks and Flames had all been tied late in the final round.
Krahn provided Liberty with the individual championship, shooting rounds of 65, 70 and 69 to finish at 9-under 204. He defeated Trolio and Arkansas’ Erich Fortlage by one shot.
While the trophies left the Palmetto State, South Carolina schools made their presence felt throughout the 16-team event.
Clemson led the in-state contingent, finishing fourth at 9-under 843. The Tigers opened with a 10-under 274 and were third entering the final round before finishing behind three teams separated by just two shots.
Hampton Roberts led Clemson individually, tying for ninth at 4-under 209 after posting three consecutive under-par rounds. Freshman Gabriel Holtz finished three shots behind Roberts at 3-under 210, good for 12th place.
Tournament host South Carolina finished sixth at 1-under 851, but senior Bo Carpenter provided one of the week’s biggest highlights for the Gamecocks.
Playing as an individual, Carpenter finished alone in fourth at 7-under 206, just three shots behind Krahn. He opened with rounds of 67 and 68 before closing with an even-par 71. Carpenter entered the final round just one shot off the lead.
College of Charleston also spent time near the top of the leaderboard before finishing eighth at 1-over 853. Johan Bredenkamp provided the Cougars with one of the tournament’s most memorable rounds, opening with a 7-under 64 that gave him the first-round individual lead. He eventually tied for 15th at 2-under, while Marno Lange tied for 20th at even par.
The Bryan Bros Collegiate featured six South Carolina programs. In addition to Clemson, South Carolina and Charleston, Coastal Carolina finished 14th at 28-over, Wofford was 15th at 38-over and Winthrop finished 16th at 44-over.
The tournament was played at the par-71 Solina Golf Club in West Columbia and hosted by South Carolina in partnership with former Gamecock standouts George and Wesley Bryan.
